Well, I certainly enjoyed last night’s concert, and I think everyone else there did too (except perhaps some of the audience members who were harassed and cajoled into singing “Boogedy boogedy boogedy boogedy shoo-be doo-wop she-bop”, “Shoo-bop sha wadda wadda yippity boom de boom” and the like). Mark Dorell took the choir to places it’s never been before and I think in performance we approached the required combination of enthusiasm and precision that eluded us throughout the rehearsals. The soloists and the ring-ins made a huge contribution as did Belinda, singer and accompanist (when she could prise Mark loose from the keyboard).
By the way, the phrase that features in “We Go Together” and forms the title to this post comes from Little Richard’s “Tutti Frutti”. (I had a link to an audio-only recording of that song but then I found this marvellous video of “Tutti Frutti” preceded by “Long Tall Sally”. And you thought rock and roll was invented by Bill Haley and the Comets?)
