A Grand Night for Singing

This is the name of our concert next Tuesday, but also the name of the work from which several of our songs have been selected. I had assumed A Grand Night for Singing was a musical, but in fact it was a 1993 revue showcasing the music of Richard Rodgers and the lyrics of Oscar Hammerstein II. The songs that we have been rehearsing are:

  • A shortened version of the Opening Medley incorporating “Carousel Waltz” (from Carousel) and “It’s a Grand Night for Singing” (from State Fair);
  • “Honey Bun” (from South Pacific);
  • Some Enchanted Evening” (from South Pacific);
  • I Have Dreamed” (from The King and I)

There are many performances of these songs on YouTube but the musical and technical quality is highly variable, so I’ll just link to this one, “A Grand Night for Singing” from the 1945 movie, State Fair
